The Mesquite Fire Department (MFD) utilizes battery operated hydraulic rescue tools on all seven front line fire engines. These tools are primarily used to extricate patients involved in motor vehicle accidents. The battery-operated tools supplement the heavy-duty rescue tools found on the MFD’s ladder trucks. Due to the ability of these tools to be quickly deployed by each of the seven fire engines, the need for a ladder truck response to certain incidents is reduced. The current battery-operated tools were purchased over 10 years ago and some have been taken out of service due the cost to repair the outdated technology.
Financial Implications
This project was included in the 2018-19 Fiscal Year capital budget.
