Title

A resolution authorizing the Mayor to provide a letter of support to the North Texas Municipal Water District to allow the City of Melissa, Texas, to become a member city in the Regional Wastewater System and Upper East Fork Interceptor System.

Body

The City of Melissa, Texas, has submitted a request to become a member of the Regional Wastewater System and Upper East Fork Interceptor System operated by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD). The City of Melissa is located north of McKinney, Texas, and is currently a customer city of both of these systems. Due to Melissa’s potential growth over the next 20 years, it is advantageous for both the City and the District for the City to become of member. Membership in the systems will obligate the City to contribute more to their fair share of the system’s debt and operating costs as their usage of the system increases.

Having more cities participating in the systems is economically beneficial to the City of Mesquite to offset costs of expansion and operation of the regional system. As a member of the Regional Wastewater System, the City of Mesquite can recommend approval of this request.
