Title

A resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an Election Services Contract and Joint Election Services Agreement with Dallas County Elections Department in connection with the Special Election to be held May 4, 2019.

Body

The attached resolution authorizes the Mayor to execute an Election Services Contract and Joint Election Services Agreement with the Dallas County Elections Department in connection with the Special Election to be held May 4, 2019. The contract provides for:

                     Participation by 41 entities.

Responsibilities of the Dallas County Elections Administrator and participating entities.

Estimated election cost to be deposited with the Dallas County Elections Department (DCED).

City of Mesquite’s estimated cost for the 2019 Joint Election is $25,290.94, with Mesquite Independent School District’s (MISD) and Dallas County Community College District’s (DCCCD) participation. This estimate was provided prior to the filing deadline, without knowing if any entities would be withdrawing from the election. Since that time, MISD has confirmed that they have no contested races and will be withdrawing from the election. Therefore, the City will be responsible for a larger share of the overall cost of the election. DCCCD will be holding a bond election. DCED will provide a revised cost estimate at a later date.

Hours and locations for early voting (approximately 41 locations countywide with two of these locations being in Mesquite at Lakeside Activity Center, 101 Holley Park Drive and Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way).

Financial Implications

Election costs are budgeted as Professional Services in the City Secretary Department’s FY2018-19 budget.
