Due to the increase in the number of Mesquite Fire Department (MFD) new hires, combined with the Phase One Cancer Prevention Program, which consists of issuing two sets of fire protection clothing to 45 plus firefighters, it was necessary to purchase additional fire protective clothing. The purchase included one extra set of firefighter bunker gear for 45 existing members of the MFD and two sets of bunker gear for all recently hired firefighters as well as for three vacancies expected to be filled this summer.
Financial Implications
This item was approved in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 Budget. The $41,820.00 shortfall will be made up with reductions in other budgeted areas and potential savings from the MFD’s clothing allowance program.
