Authorize the City Manager to execute an interlocal agreement with the cities of Allen, Arlington, Cleburne, Farmers Branch, Frisco, Grand Prairie, Irving, Plano and Richardson to provide animal control services in the event of an emergency or disaster.
Body
To better prepare communities when a disaster or emergency strikes, a coalition of municipalities that operate municipal animal shelters developed an interlocal agreement to share resources when and if an incident overwhelms a signatory city. The coalition includes the cities of Allen, Arlington, Cleburne, Farmers Branch, Frisco, Grand Prairie, Irving, Plano, Richardson and Mesquite.
Participation during an emergency response is voluntary. If a municipality can provide the requested staffing, shelter space and/or equipment, the assistance will be free for the first 12 consecutive hours, after which the responding city will be reimbursed for related costs by the requesting city.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends Council authorize the City Manager to execute an interlocal agreement.
