Title

A resolution supporting the City of Mesquite application to the Texas Department of Transportation's 2019 Safe Routes To School infrastructure call-for-projects.

Body

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) issued a call-for-projects in February 2019 for communities to apply for funding assistance through the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. The City of Mesquite, in partnership with the Mesquite Independent School District (MISD), submitted an application to TxDOT, seeking funds to design and construct a pedestrian trail along sections of East Cartwright Road, between Twin Oaks Drive and Lawson Road, serving multiple schools in the area.

TxDOT has accepted our preliminary application for the SRTS program, through their first selection phase.  The next phase of selection process involves submitting a detailed and well-defined scope of the project to TxDOT, which requires a resolution of support by the City Council of the City of Mesquite and by entering into an agreement with TxDOT, should the project be selected for funding.
