Title

A resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute and approve the Project Specific Agreement with Dallas County for the design and construction of the Military Parkway Trail connecting downtown Mesquite to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

Body

On August 20, 2017, the City Council approved the Funding Agreement with Dallas County for the Military Parkway Trail connecting downtown Mesquite to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

This project will connect downtown Mesquite to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo. It includes a 10-foot-wide community trail beginning at Carmack Street and ending at the future connection to Paschall Park, east of Honorary Road. From the future Paschall Park connection, the trail becomes a part of the Mesquite Heritage Trail and widens to a 12-foot trail until it terminates at Rodeo Center Boulevard. The trail will connect to the Military Parkway Trail from Rodeo Center Boulevard to Sam Houston Road that was recently completed. The 10-foot-wide and 12-foot-wide trails are in accordance to the Trails Master Plan. The project will connect to the existing sidewalks along Military Parkway from Carmack Street to South Galloway Avenue to provide a continuous path all the way from South Galloway Avenue to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

The project was selected in the Dallas County 6th Major Capital Improvement Program (MCIP) call for projects and will receive 50 percent of the project costs from Dallas County. The County will be completing the design on the project and will manage the construction. The total project cost is estimated to be $2,280,000 with the City responsible for $1,140,000. Design is almost complete and construction is expected to begin in 2020.
