Title

An ordinance amending Chapter 2 of the City Code by adding a new Division 4, “Electioneering at Polling Places,” and amending Chapter 13 of the City Code regarding location of political signs on public property.

 

Body

The City of Mesquite is committed to encouraging an active electorate and, therefore, seeks to promote fair and safe access to polling places controlled by the City of Mesquite. The ordinance revisions establish nonpartisan and reasonable regulations on electioneering at polling places located at public buildings.

 

Pursuant to the authority provided by Section 61.003 of the Texas Election Code, Staff is recommending updating Chapter 2 of the City Code regarding electioneering at polling locations, and Chapter 13 regarding specifications for political signs.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the ordinance.
