Body
The City of Mesquite and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have been sharing funding of a Speed Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to promote highway safety. The proposed grant will provide funding to hire off-duty officers on an overtime basis to detect and apprehend violators for DWI, speed, occupant protection, intersection traffic control as well as distracted driving on City highways and residential roadways.
The Traffic Safety Grant is a single-year Comprehensive Safety Grant to cover Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-20. The State will participate in the amount of $37,302.01 to be supplemented by City funds in the amount of $12,610.60. City funds are included in the FY 2019-20 budget.
