Title
An ordinance amending Chapters 2 and 8 of the City Code approving the continued receipt of the City’s share of bingo prize fee funds from licensed authorized organizations within the City of Mesquite, as required by House Bill (HB) 914, enacted by the 86th Texas Legislature.
Body
Pursuant to House Bill 914, enacted by the 86th Texas Legislature, in order to continue to receive a share of bingo prize fees after January 1, 2020, the City Council must affirmatively vote to do so and submit proof of the vote to the Texas Lottery Commission by November 1, 2019. If the City Council chooses not to continue to receive a share of bingo prize fees or fails to vote to do so by November 1, 2019, the bingo organizations will keep that share of bingo prize fees for themselves to fund their charitable purposes.
The average bingo prize fees received by the City of Mesquite for the past six years has been $38,830.00 per year. The fees are deposited into the General Fund for overall General Fund operations.

Staff recommends approval of the ordinance.
