Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Dallas Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) regarding equitable sharing through the United States Department of Justice Equitable Sharing Program.

A new Task Force Agreement is being requested, effective October 1, 2019, through September 30, 2020. This new MOU will cover equitable sharing through the United States Department of Justice Equitable Sharing Program for the term of the new Task Force Agreement. This MOU supplements the previous MOU which created a position on the regional DEA Task Force for one City of Mesquite Police Officer. The assigned Police Officer will assist DEA and investigations that pertain to illicit drug activity. In return, the DEA offers vital information and resource support for investigations in the City of Mesquite.
Financial Implications
Equitable sharing for the task force cases will be shared between agencies involved in the task force and the DEA.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends that the City Manager be authorized to execute the MOU.
