The subject contract is for the rehabilitation of approximately 1,055-linear feet of existing 8-inch diameter Vitrified Clay Pipe (VCP) sanitary sewer main under Gross Road by pipe-bursting. The sewer main will be enlarged to 10-inches in diameter by pulling a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe through the existing main. The pipe-bursting method of replacement will minimize disruption to traffic and cost related to pavement removal and replacement.

This segment of sanitary sewer main was originally constructed in 1958 and serves 115 homes, a bank, three churches, an animal hospital and the Mesquite Animal Shelter.

Recent TV inspection of the existing sewer main discovered the main has numerous cracks and partially collapsed sections and is in critical need of rehabilitation. This segment of main has been repaired numerous times. On May 2, 2019, a portion of this sewer main collapsed causing a backup that flooded the Animal Shelter, resulting in $58,212.00 in damages.

Financial Implications

This project will be funded by the Water and Sewer bond funds.
