Title
An ordinance increasing the assignment pay for members of the Mesquite Fire Department who satisfy certain conditions and criteria and who are assigned to perform the specialized function of a paramedic, effective April 1, 2020.

This revised ordinance will allow additional pay to paramedics under Section 0.42 of the City of Mesquite Fire and Police Civil Service Rules and Regulations to provide an incentive in the amount of $150 per month when members of the Fire Department are assigned to perform the specialized function of a paramedic.
Financial Implications
The financial impact of this unbudgeted item in Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-20 will be $35,000 while the full year financial implications for FY 2020-21 will be $70,000. Funding for the recommended increase in paramedic assignment pay will have to be allocated during the amended budget process anticipated in salary savings from vacancies in the Fire Department.
