The contract for veterinary services for animals impounded at Mesquite Animal Services was awarded to Hillside Veterinary Clinic dba Town East Animal Hospital on December 4, 2017. This contract is for a one-year period with two one-year renewal options.

 

Services provided by Town East Animal Hospital are: 1) veterinary services for the diagnosis and treatment of injured and ill animals impounded at Mesquite Animal Services; 2) assistance with administration of rabies control and bite quarantine procedures; 3) professional evaluation, advice and testimony regarding animals involved in potential cruelty or neglect investigations; 4) prescribe and provide needed medications for animals at the shelter; 5) training of shelter staff in areas of disease prevention and identification, animal first aid, infectious diseases and signs of neglect.

 

Town East Animal Hospital has exceeded Staff expectations through previous performance periods.

 

Financial Implications

This contract will be funded through the approved General Fund operating budget.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends exercising the last renewal option through December 3, 2020, subject to annual appropriation of sufficient funds.
