Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute Change Order No. 1 to Bid No. 2019-024, Gus Thomasson Road Reconstruction, Utility & Drainage Improvements - US Highway 80 to Town East Boulevard, with Tiseo Paving Company for payment of contract incentives in the amount of $300,000.00.

 

Body

The City Council approved the original construction contract with Tiseo Paving Company, Inc., on December 3, 2018. This construction project provides infrastructure improvements, which include replacing aging water, sanitary sewer, and upgrading the drainage infrastructure through the corridor. Also included in the project is a 12-foot trail along the west side of Gus Thomasson Road with monuments memorializing the astronauts for which the streets were named.

 

The original contract amount, as initially awarded, was $12,068,789.21 with 720 calendar days for completion of the project. The contract included two project milestones, which involved paving all main lanes and turn lanes of Gus Thomasson Road, between US Highway 80 and Towne Centre Drive/Rustown Drive (Milestone 1), and between North Mesquite Drive and Town East Boulevard (Milestone 2), by November 15, 2019, marking the start of 2019 holiday shopping season. Minor grading, sidewalk construction, and establishment of vegetation still remains in the milestone areas and must be completed prior to final payment. Significant construction outside of the milestone areas is still underway.

 

Change Order No. 1 is in the amount of $300,000.00 for the contractor, Tiseo Paving Company, meeting the project milestone incentives as dictated by the contract documents.

 

Financial Implications

Sufficient funds are available in the project budget to accommodate this change order.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the change order.
