This bid is for the annual supply of replacement bunker gear (jackets and pants) and for replacement bunker boots for the Fire Department. In addition, this bid allows for additional bunker gear to be purchased in response to the Department's cancer prevention program. This additional gear will ensure that all operations assigned firefighters are issued two sets of gear. The additional set allows for the immediate cleaning of one set after exposure to any suspected carcinogens, while allowing the firefighter to utilize the second set to continue to respond to emergencies during their assigned shift.
Bid documents were broadcast through BidSync electronic bidding system, posted on the City's website and an advertisement for bid was published in the Daily Commercial Record newspaper. Three vendors submitted bids with Casco Industries, Inc., being the overall low bidder.
Financial Implications
The approved budget amount for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-20 is $335,480.00 and is based on the purchase of 121 sets of bunker gear (jackets and pants) and 25 sets of replacement boots. The budgeted amount also estimates the purchase of 20 sets of bunker gear and 10 pairs of boots for new firefighters hired during the current fiscal year due to retirements. These numbers fluctuate each year depending on how many employees are due for replacement gear and how many retirements are submitted.
