Presentation of One Community Patriot Award to Police Chief Charles Cato.

One Community is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving communities by building safe, secure cities of opportunity. Their comprehensive cause-minded community engagement programs unite, raise awareness and foster positive relationships between first responders and citizens living in the communities they serve and protect. Their programs address needs in education, health, second chance opportunities, civic engagement, safety and citizen advocacy and are the building blocks to creating safe, secure neighborhoods leading to economic growth and a stronger America.

 

The Patriot Award has been presented annually since 2017 by One Community. It is presented to an individual who through their active involvement in their community, displays ongoing engagement in building bridges of trust between law enforcement and the neighborhoods they serve.

 

One Community has chosen Mesquite Police Chief Charles Cato as the 2019 Patriot Award honoree.

 

One Community has recognized Chief Cato being instrumental in the creation and support of the Mesquite Police Department’s Summer Camp program, the Mesquite Independent School District’s (MISD) High School Mentorship Program, and the Police Explorer Program. The impact of positive relationships is powered by involvement with the community. Chief Cato is a member of the Rotary Club of Mesquite, wherein, he coordinates the awards program that recognizes MISD Seniors for leadership, good citizenship and academic achievement, additionally, he mentors three members of the John Horn High School football team. Chief Cato also participates in Big Brothers, Big Sisters by supporting a student at Florence Black Elementary School.
