An ordinance amending Chapter 5 of the City Code thereby adopting the 2018 Edition of the International Existing Building Code, effective May 1, 2020.
Body
The Mesquite Building Standards Board met on December 10, 2019, and voted to recommend that the City Council adopt the International Code Council (ICC) 2018 Edition of the International Existing Building Code, with amendments.
The substantive amendments were reviewed and recommended for adoption by an advisory committee of the North Central Texas Council of Governments and conform to building practice within the region. Some local amendments are included that are similar to local amendments associated with other parts of the adopted Codes.
This is the first time that Mesquite has proposed adoption of the International Existing Building Code. This Code will be beneficial in allowing the reuse of existing buildings in Mesquite with requirements that are more practical for existing structures.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends adoption of the proposed ordinance.
