Title
Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute a contract with Garver, LLC, to perform a Sewer Odor Study in the amount of $66,380.00.
Body
This project will produce a plan to address high odor locations caused by gases within the wastewater system.
This scope of services includes air and wastewater sampling at periodic locations along the North Mesquite and South Mesquite Interceptors. This sampling will include differential pressure monitoring, vapor phase hydrogen sulfide measurement as well as liquid phase sulfide samples. Hydrogen sulfide is a gas that is produced by common wastewater flows that produces unpleasant odors from wastewater. In addition to producing an odor, this compound also produces a very corrosive byproduct (sulfuric acid) that damages the large concrete sewer trunk mains within the wastewater system. Once these studies are completed by Garver, they will recommend air management and odor control approaches to address high odor locations.
The following areas will be looked at with this project:
1. Valley Creek Park
2. Falcon’s Lair
3. Beltline in the vicinity of Town East
4. Area near Lawson and South Mesquite Creek
Staff selected Garver to complete the sewer odor study as they have familiarity with the City’s wastewater system from their current involvement in the update to the Wastewater Master Plan and have the experience required to study and evaluate this issue.
Financial Implications
This project will be funded through Water and Sewer bonds.
