Through the assistance of grant funding through the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), the City is able to effectively provide a meal program for seniors (Ages 60+) in the City of Mesquite. The grant requires the City to contract with a meal delivery agency to provide this service. The City of Mesquite will enter into an Interlocal Cooperative Purchasing Agreement with the City of Grand Prairie (RFB No. 17124) to provide meals for senior citizens through the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA). The City of Grand Prairie awarded RFB No. 17124 to The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA) in 2018, and the contract expires September 30, 2021. The last renewal option is effective October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022.  In order to avoid an interruption in the meal service, ratification is required to utilize the current contract.

Financial Implications

The City will compensate the VNA up front then seek reimbursement from grant funds provided by the DAAA.

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends the City Council authorize the City Manager to finalize and enter into an agreement with the VNA to provide meals to senior citizens.
