Title
Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute a grant agreement with the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), to receive funds that provide meals for senior citizens, in an amount not to exceed $144,043.00.
Body
The Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) is a department under the umbrella of the Community Council of Greater Dallas responsible for planning, advocating, coordinating resources and providing services for seniors (persons 60+). It is part of a national network administered by the Federal Administration on Aging and funded under the Older Americans Act. The Act provides grant funds to states, area agencies, and local agencies to ensure the needs of seniors are met through the provision of nutrition and other community services. Through the use of these grant funds, Parks and Recreation is able to provide meals five days a week to participants in the Adult 50+ programs at both Evans and Goodbar Senior Centers.
Financial Implications
This is a reimbursement grant and the City will expend funds up front then be reimbursed by the grant up to a certain amount.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends the City Council authorize the City Manager to accept the grant award and execute an agreement with the DAAA to provide meals to citizens.
