The Fire Department currently staffs seven full time ambulances and one peak-time ambulance. This new ambulance will replace Ambulance 5, a 2015 model, which will be placed into reserve status. This purchase will also increase the reserve fleet to three ambulances. Best practices are to have one reserve per every two full-time ambulances.
This new ambulance, as manufactured by Frazer, Ltd., meets all current safety and cleanliness standards, including six-point harnesses and a UV-C light to sanitize the patient compartment. The new chassis, a Ford F-350 Diesel, has a Liquid Spring suspension system that will greatly increase the stability and handling of the ambulance.
Furthermore, the Fire Department has allotted $31,528.00 in project funding to purchase additional hard-mounted equipment, such as a mobile data computer, controlled medications vault, and a KNOX Keysecure module, to be installed in this ambulance. An automatic patient loading system was also purchased in FY21 that will used in this unit, greatly enhancing the safety of fire department personnel in the delivery of high-quality care to City of Mesquite citizens and visitors.
