A resolution endorsing and accepting the 2021-2022 Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP), approving the contribution of City funds in the amount of $1,532.73 and authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents with the Texas Department of Transportation in connection with such grant and project.

 

Body

The City of Mesquite and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have been sharing funding of an Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Grant for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) to promote highway safety. The proposed grant will provide funding to hire officers on an overtime basis to detect and apprehend intoxicated and impaired offenders on the City’s roadways.

 

The Traffic Safety Grant is a single-year IDM Safety Grant to cover Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-2022. The State will participate in the amount of $5,945.14 to be supplemented by City funds in the amount of $1,532.73. City funds are included in the FY 2021-2022 budget.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
