Title

A resolution determining to request financial assistance from the Texas Department of Transportation for purposes of preparation of an Airport Master Plan, designating the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as an agent for the purposes of applying for, receiving, and disbursing all funds, authorizing the expenditure of up to $50,000.00 of City funds for the plan; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all contracts and agreements as necessary.

 

Body

The City of Mesquite was selected by the State of Texas to receive federal funds to conduct an Airport Master Plan.  The total estimated expense for this project is $333,333.00, of which the City is responsible for ten percent of the total cost.

 

This Master Plan will be a yearlong study to evaluate the future needs of the Mesquite Metro Airport and will include the formation of a Planning Advisory Committee which will include members of the City Council, TxDOT Aviation representatives, Airport tenants, and City Engineering, Economic Development and Administration staff. The master planning effort is expected to begin later this Spring.

 

Financial Implications

The Airport Fund will be utilized for the City’s portion of the project. This is a 90/10 grant currently estimated at $333,333.00, of which the City will be responsible for $33,333.00.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
